The bar has been raised with the release of the final First Sounds album for the year. First Nations Media Australia has once again partnered with the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia (CBAA) to deliver the impeccable First Sounds Vol.7. The latest instalment features 12 deadly new tracks from our First Nations artists delivering you a thought-provoking collection filled with culture, strength, and passion. First Sounds most stunning and compelling expression yet, this heartfelt showcase will transport
you from rap, electro pop, trip-hop, and dance pop through to rock-reggae, hip hop, and a chilled jazz vibe.
Profoundly deep and rich with soul, the album promotes First Nations artists making music from across the country including Noongar, Torres Strait Islander and Kirrae Wurrong artists, with contributions coming in from Gimuy (Cairns) to Boorloo (Perth) to Ampilatwatja in the NT. The last song on the album is an Acknowledgement to Country song for children, paying respects to the Traditional Owners of the land, making a unique addition to the diverse range of music. From start to finish, Vol.7 delivers a work of melodic genius, striking a chord with listeners.Mulong, a collective of artists led by Victor Steffensen, and includes musicians Natalia Mann, Mirindi Schreiber, Nikki Doll, Aden Brim, and Torres Webb, feature their song, Great Land on the album. Cultural burning is a tool for community to look after Country, so when the devastating wildfires of 2020 destroyed
thousands of hectares of bushland, plus followed by the start of the COVID pandemic, Mulong penned the song expressing the human emotion of so much loss of Country. Happy to release the song that shines a little hope through these times and into the future, Mulong said “Having Great Land listed on Volume 7 of First Sounds is too good and so happy that the song for connecting with Country and healing our Mother is out there for all to share”.
